What Does the C-Label Label Do?

It is very difficult to know whether the products you buy and use are truly compostable or biodegradable.

What Does the C-Label Label Do?

The C-Label compostable product certification label certifies products in accordance with ASTM D6400 and/or ASTM D6868. In this way, certified producers who want to demonstrate that they provide assurance of compostability or biodegradability ensure that the consumer is assured by using the C-Label Compostable product label on their products.

The C-Label compostable product label is designed for use on products and packaging. This way, consumers, composters, waste haulers and authorities can now easily identify these plastic products that are designed to biodegrade quickly, completely and safely when composted in well-run municipal and commercial facilities.

Compostable or biodegradable products to be certified are tested in approved, independent laboratories. The laboratory checks data to verify that products meet the requirements in ASTM Specifications D6400 or D6868. The ASTM Specifications used by C-Label are the result of years of hard work by leading scientists, resin manufacturers and the composting industry.

Passing these specifications means a product will biodegrade completely, quickly and safely, just like kraft paper, garden ornaments and food scraps. ASTM D6400 is designed for coating plastic films and bags. ASTM D6868 is for packaging designed to be composted, including plastic-coated paper and cardboard.
